How to make a gradient from a photo

Upload the photoA sunset, a landscape or any photo with colors you like.
Choose the colorsTry the Vivid, Soft or Light modes, or drag the points. The gradient goes from dark to light.
Copy the CSSCopy the linear-gradient or open it in the generator to change the angle or make it radial.

For smooth gradients use 3 or 4 colors that are close to each other; many very different colors make harsh steps.
Sunsets, the sea and the sky give the most natural gradients.
If text goes on top, check it against the lightest and the darkest color with the contrast checker.

How do I use the CSS?

Paste the background: linear-gradient(...) line into your element's style. It works in all current browsers.

Can I change the direction?

Yes. Open the gradient in the generator and choose the angle, a radial gradient or mesh mode.

How many colors does it use?

Up to 6, sorted by lightness so the blend between colors looks natural.
