How your face shape is measured
The tool detects landmarks around your face and measures four things: the length of your face from hairline to chin, and its width at the forehead, the cheekbones and the jawline. It compares length to width and the three widths to each other, and also looks at how rounded or angular your jaw and chin are. Your result is the shape that fits best, along with the next-closest shape, since many faces are a mix of two.
The 6 face shapes
Oval faces are a little longer than wide with balanced widths and a softly rounded jaw. Round faces are about as wide as they are long with full cheeks and a soft jaw. Square faces have a strong, angular jaw about as wide as the forehead. Heart faces are widest at the forehead and narrow to a pointed chin. Diamond faces are widest at the cheekbones with a narrower forehead and jaw. Oblong faces are noticeably longer than wide with similar widths from top to bottom.
Tips for a good photo
Look straight at the camera with your head level, keep a neutral expression with your mouth closed, and pull your hair back so your hairline, cheeks and jaw are visible. Hold the phone at eye level and not too close, since wide-angle lenses at short distance can distort proportions. Even, front-facing light helps the landmarks register accurately.
