Why the sky changes color
The daytime sky is blue because air scatters blue sunlight more than red. At sunrise and sunset the light travels through much more air, the blue is scattered away first and the reds and oranges are left. Right after sunset comes the blue hour, when the sky turns deep blue and violet.
How this page works
It calculates the height of the sun from the date, the time and the latitude and longitude of the city, and draws the color of a clear sky. It does not include clouds or weather, so the real sky can look a little different. Move the bar to see how the sky changes during the day.
Using the palette
The five colors go from the top of the sky down to the horizon. Each one has a color name; tap it to copy its HEX code. You can also save the sky as a phone wallpaper, a desktop wallpaper or a share image.
