Color Palettes

Layered paper art

Each colour of your palette is a sheet of paper. Cut, stack and watch the depth appear. Then download the templates and build it for real with paper and a craft knife.

Pick a layer and draw: the picture stays still while you cut. Move the mouse or tilt your phone to see the depth.

How it works

Each of the 5 colours in your palette is a sheet of paper. The lightest goes at the back and the darkest at the front, like the light in a landscape at dusk. Start from a scene: hills with a moon, tunnel, waves or flower. Then pick a layer and cut paper away to open gaps, or add paper to create new shapes.

Build a real shadow box

Download the 5 printable A4 templates. Print each one on paper or card of its colour, cut along the black line and stack the layers in order, back to front, with 3–5 mm foam pads between them. Finish it in a deep frame for a classic shadow box papercraft, with a light behind or above it.

Wallpaper

Save your artwork as a wallpaper for your phone (1080 × 1920), your computer (1920 × 1080) or in a square format. You can add a wooden frame so it looks like a picture on the wall.

Frequently asked questions

Is it free?

Yes. No sign-up needed, and you can save as many images and templates as you like.

What paper should I use?

Card of 160–250 gsm so the layers don't bend. To space them apart, use double-sided foam pads or foam tape.

Can I use my own colours?

Yes. Open the tool from any palette on the site, or share the link with your palette: the colours sort themselves from lightest to darkest.
