What colors go together?
Colors go together when they share a relationship on the color wheel. The most common ones are: analogous colors, which sit side by side and create harmony; complementary colors, which are opposites and create maximum contrast; and triadic colors, three evenly spaced hues that balance contrast and variety.
Simple rules for combining colors
Start with a base color that captures your idea. Pick one or two colors that go with it using the relationships above, and save a neutral (white, gray or black) for the background and text. Keep the palette to four or five colors and watch the contrast so everything stays readable.
Color combinations that always work
Blue and orange, purple and yellow, or green and red are classic complementary pairs. If you prefer something softer, an analogous range of blues and greens, or reds and oranges, matches with no effort.
