How to tell guests what colors to wear
Put the dress code and three to five colors on one card, and share it on your wedding website or with the invitation. Guests love a clear guide: a palette with names (sage, dusty blue, champagne) is easier to shop for than a vague “wear something earthy”.
Wedding dress codes, explained
Black tie means floor-length gowns and tuxedos. Formal allows long dresses or elegant cocktail dresses and dark suits. Cocktail means knee to midi dresses and suits. Semi-formal is a dressy outfit without a tux, and garden party calls for light fabrics, florals and comfortable shoes for grass.
Colors guests should avoid
White, ivory and cream belong to the bride. Many couples also ask guests to skip neon, all black at a daytime wedding, and the bridesmaids’ colors so the wedding party stands out in photos.
Mismatched bridesmaids
Mismatched bridesmaids wear different shades of the same palette. Pick five colors and the card assigns one to each bridesmaid, or choose ombré for a light-to-dark line in your photos.
